Christina Lake and surrounding area offer a variety of hiking,
biking and horse-back riding trails for all skill levels - from "soft
adventure" to "extreme riding". Many trails have all season
access. View our new trails map online, or download a copy of the Christina Lake Recreation Guide & Trails Map. Printed copies are available at WildWays and the visitor's info center.
The Spirit of 2010 Trail
The Spirit of 2010 Trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail, a 21,500 km route
that winds its way across Canada, reaching every province and territory
and connecting 3 oceans. The section through our valley follows the
previous route of the Columbia Western Railway, a continuation of the
Kettle Valley Railway. This pathway, clinging to the sides of the valleys
and meandering along the scenic rivers, connects us with the Kootenay
to the east and the Okanagan to the west. While riding or hiking along
this route, you will experience history and natural beauty.
Our section of
the route contains wonderful examples of engineering; train trestles
and tunnels of the Columbia & Western Railway, which you travel over
and through. In addition to the man made wonders, those with a keen
eye have the opportunity to glimpse a large variety of wildlife. Within
close proximity to the community are two large train trestles, fully
decked for safety, offering great views of the Kettle River Valley and Cascade Falls, one of Christina Lake’s natural wonders. All of this and
more is accessible to individuals of every age and ability, allowing anyone
to enjoy the full experience of the Columbia Western Rail Trail, our
local contribution to B.C.’s the Spirit of 2010 Trail.
Please note:
When taking advantage of our lakeside,
riverside or trail areas, please remember a few simple things
to enhance your trip and preserve our natural spaces:
- Pack it in, pack it out! Do not count
on litter barrels being provided.
- Bring your own water. Not all trails
have water access.
- No fires! Our terrain is varied, with
many dry areas. Please check with the Boundary Forest Service
before lighting a fire.
- Dig proper latrines. Dig well away from
water sources, dig deep and bury your pit when you are through.
We hope you enjoy your time in the
Christina Lake area.
